Why do we feel threatened by immigration when we are a nation built upon it? Our ancestors were nearly all immigrants, seeking a better life for themselves and their families in America. The skill level of the average immigrant has changed over the last century. Today, immigrants have a diverse level of skills from the business sector to the manual labor sector. Unfortunately, low-skilled immigrants experience a significant wage gap today that didn’t exist decades ago. Research shows that the skill level and success of immigrants over time has made a shift, but the hopes for a new and better life in America has not dulled over time.
